- Letter Addressed To The Members Of The "Gender Is My Agenda" Campaign
To the members of the
“Gender is My Agenda” Campaign
Dakar, 5 March 2007
Dear colleagues,
As you may know, the positions of Chairperson and Deputy Chairperson of
the African Union (AU) are up for renewal further to decision
BC/OLC/217/20/Vol.IV of the AU.
In this regard and as Coordinator of the “Gender is My Agenda” Campaign,
Femmes Africa Solidarité (FAS) is writing to seek your mobilization for the
support of female candidates for the aforementioned positions.
As part of its work in on sensitization, advocacy and monitoring of the
Solemn Declaration on Gender Equality, the “Gender is My Agenda”
Campaign must be seized to encourage women with the required profile to
submit their candidacy to the Commission of the AU.
In thanking the outgoing President of the Commission, H.E. Mr Alpha Omar
Konaré for his active role in favour of the promotion of women and their
integration in the AU, it is FAS’s hope that members of the Campaign will fully
support female candidates.
FAS kindly asks that members of the Campaign identify female candidates and
then discuss among other members to assemble a pool of women leaders who
can then benefit from the full support of the Campaign.
For further information,
please visit the site of the AU : www.africa-union.org or the site of FAS and the Campaign www.fasngo.org.
