Strategies
The Solemn Declaration will not be fully implemented
by the African states unless civil society unites and mobilises
in its advocacy efforts.
Regular Pre-Summit consultative meetings, held
on the margins of every Assembly of Heads of State and Government
of the African Union, the networking of NGOs across the continent
and the compilation of reports are the main strategies for significantly
advancing women's rights in Africa.
Another crucial strategy will also involve
undertaking advocacy missions focusing on the various aspects
and themes of the Solemn Declaration, including :
the participation
and representation of women in peace processes;
the campaigns
against violence towards women and children;
the principle of
gender parity;
the ratification of the Protocol on Women's rights;
the issue of HIV/Aids and women.
Equally, it is important to
mobilise and inform the media of the need to integrate a gender
perspective into the African Union’s agenda.
