In launching the “Gender is my Agenda” campaign, the NGO Focal Points and other participating organizations aim to disseminate information concerning the text of the Solemn Declaration to the widest possible audience and to monitor its implementation by the African States.

Although the adoption of the Declaration marked an important stage, the process will only really be able to continue if African women fully take note of the contents of this new instrument at their disposal and of the rights which it accords them.

Crucially, civil society must take ownership of the follow-up evaluation of the Solemn Declaration, at both a national and regional level, ensuring that the focal points are supported in their work to monitor its implementation.
